How to get to Kleinwalsertal
Your destination in Austria
The Kleinwalsertal is an alpine high valley in the Austrian Alps, located in the federal state of Vorarlberg. It is geographically separated from Austria and can only be accessed via Germany, specifically through the municipality of Oberstdorf in Bavaria. Thus, the valley forms an Austrian enclave that is only accessible from Germany and is surrounded by high mountains.
By Car
From the north in Germany:
- Drive south on the German highways (A7, A96, A980) until the Allgäu Cross and continue to Kempten im Allgäu. From there, take the B19 to Sonthofen and then proceed to Oberstdorf.
From Oberstdorf to Kleinwalsertal:
- In Oberstdorf, follow the signs towards Kleinwalsertal.
- You will pass the border at “Walserschanz” between Germany and Austria (there are usually no border controls).
Through Kleinwalsertal to Mittelberg:
- Follow the Walserstraße through the towns of Riezlern and Hirschegg until you reach Mittelberg.
- In Mittelberg, the main road remains the Walserstraße.
- The Almajur Holiday Hotel is located approximately 1 km after the town sign on the right-hand side.

By train
Travel by train to the Oberstdorf terminus. This can be reached from larger cities such as Munich or Augsburg. From Oberstdorf station, take the number 1 bus in the direction of Mittelberg/Baad. Get off at the bus stop “Mittelberg/Helgenweg”. The Almajur Ferienhotel is located directly on the driveway.
By Airplane

From these airports, you can reach Oberstdorf by rental car or public transport. From Oberstdorf, as described above, take the bus into Kleinwalsertal to Mittelberg.
